Chiesi Group secured the 23rd spot on the 2024 World’s Best Workplaces™ list, compiled by Great Place To Work® and Fortune magazine.

Recognition details and company profile

The placement marks the first appearance of Chiesi on the global list and makes it the inaugural Italian firm to achieve the distinction. Headquartered in Parma, Italy, the group operates through 31 affiliates and employs more than 7,000 staff members worldwide, with women comprising 56 percent of the workforce. Over 1,300 employees work in research and development.

The CEO, Giuseppe Accogli, said the company is proud to be the only European pharmaceutical organization included in the rankings. He noted that being part of a selective global list of only 25 companies provides strong motivation for continuous improvement. He added that the accolade should boost employee pride and belonging.

The World’s Best Workplaces survey draws on 7.4 million responses, representing roughly 20 million workers worldwide. To qualify, firms must appear on at least five regional Best Workplaces™ lists across Asia, Europe, Latin America, Africa, North America or Australia during the prior year.

Human‑resources perspective and workplace initiatives

Chief Human Resources Officer Giacomo Mazzariello said the talented global team is the cornerstone of success. He noted that Chiesi aims to be a “Happy Place” for employees in every location, emphasizing human‑centred leadership and policies that promote “(work‑) Life Harmony.”

Efforts include closing the gender pay gap, cultivating a culture of well‑being, and encouraging innovation. “We’re not just achieving a ranking, we’re working towards an even brighter future,” he said, adding that the goal is to make a lasting impact with current and future talent.

In addition to the global ranking, the firm earned several regional honors this year. It placed among the top‑10 Best Workplaces in Europe™, was named a Great Place to Work in Biopharma in the United States, and received Best Workplaces for Women™ in Greater China, among other distinctions.

Compared with previous years, this climb mirrors a broader trend of European pharma firms seeking to differentiate themselves through employee experience rather than solely product pipelines. While many competitors rely on traditional metrics, Chiesi’s focus on gender equity and work‑life integration resonates with the survey’s criteria, suggesting that such policies may become a competitive advantage in talent acquisition.

Its R&D focus, with more than 1,300 scientists and engineers, aligns with a public commitment to innovation. By tying employee satisfaction to scientific output, the company hopes to sustain growth while maintaining the workplace standards that earned the 23rd place.

The ranking highlights Chiesi’s position as a notable employer in the pharmaceutical sector, especially given the rigorous selection process that filters thousands of applicants down to just 25 global winners.
